CLEVELAND — The Browns are bringing back Kareem Hunt.
Hunt, 28, will join the team’s backfield after Nick Chubb’s devastating season-ending injury on Monday against the Steelers. It’s a one-year deal worth up to $4 million.
This move was expected following Chubb’s injury. Hunt had drama and an underwhelming season in 2022, requesting a trade and sitting out training camp. He rushed for 468 yards in 17 games last season.
Despite struggling to find work this offseason, Hunt will now provide a complementary option to Jerome Ford.
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski reiterated on Wednesday that “Jerome [Ford] is the lead back,” but added Hunt’s pass-catching ability will give him plenty of opportunities.
“You don’t replace Nick Chubb,” Stefanski said, according to ESPN. “You just don’t do that. Great players in the league, you look around, they go out. It’s always not one person that replaces a player of [Chubb’s] caliber. So, everybody’s got to do a little bit more, a little bit more everywhere.”
