CHICAGO — The Chicago Bears are a trainwreck.
Again.
And now Justin Fields is calling out the coaching staff.
The Bears quarterback said he has played too “robotic” this season and wants to play more instinctively.
“I felt like I wasn’t necessarily playing my game,” Fields said of his poor Week 2 outing against the Bucs, when he completed 54 percent of his passes and threw one touchdown and two picks. “I felt like I was robotic … not playing like myself. My goal this week is to … play football how I know how to play football. That includes thinking less and going out there and playing off instincts.”
When asked why the Bears offense has struggled so mightily this season, Fields answered, “Coaching.”
Fields struggled in yet again in a week Two loss against the Buccaneers completing 16-of-29 passes for 211 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions, while running just four times for three yards. That’s the lowest rushing for Fields since his rookie season.
“My goal this week is to say, ‘F it — just play football,’” Fields said, via Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times. “That’s when I play my best, when I’m out there being free. I’m going to go out there and be me.”
Perhaps this could translate into more rushing attempts for the mobile Fields, who has just four designed carries through two weeks.
Mind boggling.
One of the bigger questions entering the NFL this season was if Fields would solidify himself as the team’s long-term answer at quarterback.
So far? It’s a no.
