NEW YORK — It’s another bad day to be Zach Wilson.

The Jets quarterback who’s been under the national spotlight for last three weeks is now even catching strays from opposing teams.

A reporter asked Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay on Wednesday what he sees out of Wilson and the Jets’ offense as they prepare for their Week 4 matchup at MetLife Stadium.

“Damn, that’s a hard question, I can’t lie,” Gay said while holding in a chuckle. “A team that wants to run the ball.

“Of course, man, that wasn’t meant to be funny or anything, but (Aaron Rodgers) got hurt and it turned into a team where, like, panic mode almost. That’s what I see at least. They’ve got great running backs, so now they’re just trying to pound it, pound and ground like they did … I don’t know if they win. I feel like the running backs rolling, three great ones. I feel like that’s their game plan.”

He’s not wrong. The Jets have gone into panic mode.

What was supposed to be a marquee matchup highlighted by two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks, has now been relegated to Patrick Mahomes vs. Zach Wilson.

The Jets have lost two straight games since Wilson took over as starter. The 24-year-old has been predictably terrible throwing for just 467 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions. His 57.0 passer rating is the worst among NFL starting quarterbacks.

New York currently has the NFL’s last ranked offense and also has the league’s worst scoring offense.

“We all acknowledge he has to play better. We all acknowledge that,” Jets coach Robert Saleh said Wednesday on Wilson. “He acknowledges it, teammates acknowledge it, he acknowledges it himself, but the key is to have confidence in yourself. You have to.”

Wilson will have his chance to rebound Sunday night.

Will he though? Probably not.
