NEW YORK — Giancarlo’s Stanton’s struggles have been well documented this season.
The Yankees slugger is fresh off his worst season as a pro slashing an abysmal.191 in 101 games.
Stanton, 33, is confident he will turn the corner, however.
Step 1? Change.
“There’ll be a lot of changes,” Stanton said on the final day of the regular season. “I’ve talked about how bad the year has been, so not much more to touch on that. But there will be a lot in the lab in the offseason.”
“Everything will be taken a look at.”
The Yankees still owe Stanton $98 million over the next four years, and desperately needs him to perform.
“It’s a lot of film, a lot of thought process in it,” he said. “What was my thought process during a lot of the film and how they match up with other years, other good times, bad times, etc. Just get a good game plan for next year.”
Despite his struggles, the veteran outfielders underlying numbers are still encouraging. Stanton finished with the eighth-highest average exit velocity (93.3 mph) in the majors this season.
“Obviously been a disappointing one for G,” manager Aaron Boone said. “I absolutely believe it’s still in there for him to be what we need him to be in the middle of our lineup. He’s going to be one of those guys that has to have a really strong winter. He and I have already spoken about that and have some thoughts. But I absolutely believe it’s in there for him”
Stanton will have plenty of time to refresh in advance of the 2023 season.
