NEW YORK — Evan Neal is going down a dangerous path.
The Giants lineman spoke to NJ.com reporter Darryl Slater on Wednesday, and his comments, well, were concerning.
“Why would a lion concern himself with the opinion of a sheep? The person that’s commenting on my performance, what does he do? Flip hot dogs and hamburgers somewhere?”
Ouch.
The Giants offense, for the third time in four games, couldn’t get anything going , falling 24-3 to the Seahawks on Monday subsequently falling to 1-3 on the season.
Neal, who many hoped would take a step forward in year two and justify his first-round draft status, was repeatedly beaten throughout the night.
The 23-year-old added that some of the Giants fans are “fair weather” and “bandwagons” for booing the team when things aren’t going well.
“And how can you say you’re really a fan when we’re out there battling our asses off — and the game wasn’t going well — but the best you can do is boo your home team? So how much of a fan are you, really?”
Neal did acknowledge his play has to improve.
“We take responsibility for those 11 sacks,” Neal said. “We just have to play better. There’s no excuse for it…right now, we’re just not playing our best ball.”
The 2022 first pick is understandably frustrated and under a lot of pressure, but attacking the fanbase? Doesn’t seem like a great idea in this market.
