(Los Angeles, CA) – The NFL is no stranger to wild and even bizarre marketing efforts. Look no further than the recent and ongoing Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce craze. Like the behemoth that it is, the NFL will never miss a chance to expand its brand and grow its influence.

Enter then a scene from Monday Night Football that – appropriately – took place in Los Angeles. At one point, ESPN’s TV cameras caught a Chargers fan going wild and celebrating. She seemed intensely focused on the game action. But some on social media and elsewhere noticed the woman was sort of an odd fan. Her celebrations were done alone and didn’t include any other fellow fans – save for one shot that showed a similarly intense man in the background. Plus, some savvy viewers noticed the woman was in a suite at SoFi Stadium, and she was notably not sitting in the stands.

Theories quickly centered on the woman being a paid professional – an actor who may have been compensated to help appeal to the Chargers fan base, and back up the notion they are both intense and robust in number. It’s no secret the Chargers angered some fans by leaving San Diego for Los Angeles, and they’re competing for fans with the Rams – not to mention many in Tinsel Town remain loyal to the Raiders, given they played there from 1982-1994.

The Chargers have made waves on social media previously with their “schedule release” videos – which are major productions that routinely go viral on social media. Someone in their marketing department – just like the “fan” on Monday Night Football – is earning their salary.
