(Dallas, TX) – It seems Max Scherzer just can’t get healthy during this MLB Postseason.
As his Texas Rangers prepare for the Fall Classic, Scherzer is back on the shelf – dealing with a cut on his thumb that’s causing him discomfort. This follows the muscle strain in his upper arm that kept Scherzer from pitching in the Wild Card round and ALDS.
After the Rangers won game 7 against the Astros – a game Scherzer started – the 39-year-old right hander spoke to Fox and said: “I feel good. My arm’s actually in a good spot. I’m not dealing with the strain anymore. I got actually a little cut on my thumb that I’m actually dealing with.
That’s actually more of a problem now.”
And perhaps it contributed to Scherzer’s ineffectiveness in game 7, as he was pulled after just 2 ⅔ innings – letting up 2 runs.
The World Series is scheduled to begin on Friday in Arlington, as the Rangers await the winner of Phillies-Diamondbacks in a game 7 of their own on the NL side. Scherzer says he’ll be ready.
“You gotta want the ball in these situations. When the time rises and pressure is on, all the chips are on the table, you got to want to be out there and you got to want to be in there and make big pitches in big situations.”
