CHICAGO — The Bears plan on starting Justin Fields (thumb) in Week 11, coach Matt Eberflus said Wednesday.

Eberflus said Fields, who has missed a month with his thumb injury, has progressed well and should be under center against the Detroit Lions barring a setback.

Undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent started the Bears’ past four games in Fields’ place and led the Bears (3-7) to a 2-2 record.

Returning on Sunday gives Fields seven games to show what he can do before the year is over. The Bears own the Panthers’ first-round pick as well as their own, so they are likely to have two premium picks in the first round and makes them an obvious landing spot for a quarterback.

The 24-year-old is playing for his future.
