(New York, NY) – Aaron Rodgers has been sacked.
Pat McAfee, host of The Pat McAfee show, has given the controversial QB the boot from his talk show.
Rodgers has been a weekly guest for McAfee throughout his show’s rise in popularity – which ultimately resulted in the punter-turned-talk show host securing a five-year $85 million contract from ESPN to air his program. The deal allowed McAfee to retain ownership and executive producer rights over the show.
Following recent drama between Rodgers and late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, all of which revolved around the QB’s appearances with McAfee, things will get a cooling off period. At the start of Wednesday’s show, McAfee announced Rodgers will not make any more appearances prior to the end of the NFL season.
McAfee admitted, “there will be a lot of people who are happy with that, myself included to be honest with you. The way it ended, it got really loud. I am happy that he’s not going to be in my (social media) mentions going forward, which is great news.”
According to the New York Post’s media reporter Andrew Marchand, the expectation had been that Rodgers would continue to make his weekly appearances through the Super Bowl. But in recent weeks, Rodgers time on the show involved Kimmel and discussions on COVID-19, rather than football or sports.
It seems McAfee, and perhaps his partners at ESPN, had seen enough.
