WASHINGTON — The Washington Commanders have began their pursuit for a new HC.
ESPN’s John Keim reports the Commanders have “no interest” in pursuing former Patriots HC Bill Belichick for their head coaching vacancy.
The Commanders have been rumored as a potential suitor for Belichick, but Keim, a beat writer for the Commanders, said in a post, “Based on multiple conversations it does not appear the Commanders’ position on pursuing Bill Belichick has changed. Myself and some others have been told a few times there was no interest.”

It shouldn’t come as a surprise.
The Commanders have already requested interviews with seven different coaches, and with the team in re-build mode it was never realistic for Washington to target a 71-year-old aging head coach.

While Belichick’s resumé could be enticing to teams with vacancies, the potential of him wanting full control of the roster could push teams off.
After Ron Rivera’s catastrophic four year stint, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Commanders take a more traditional approach with the hiring of a coach and general manager.
