NEW YORK — Former NBA forward Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis was sentenced by a judge Thursday to 40 months in prison, plus three years’ supervised release, for his Nov. 2023 conviction in an alleged scheme to defraud the league’s health care benefits plan.
More than 20 people, including numerous former players such as Terrence Williams and Keyon Dooling, have been sentenced in the case for filing false medical claims with the NBA Players’ Health and Benefit Welfare Plan.
Federal authorities said that Davis and others defrauded an insurance plan for NBA players and family members of more than $5 million in a scheme that lasted at least four years. The players would make false claims for dental services and various medical care, but those services were never provided.
Davis spent eight seasons in the NBA, playing for the Boston Celtics, Orlando Magic, and the Los Angeles Clippers, and was a member of the 2008 championship team for the Celtics.
He was ordered to pay $80,000 in restitution. Davis’ attorney, declined comment.
