(Nashville, TN) – “We are lucky to be alive.” Those harrowing words from NFL WR Randall Cobb’s wife relay how intense the situation was when the family narrowly escaped a house fire.

On her Instagram story, Cobb’s wife Aiyda explained the fire began when a Tesla charger burst into flames. “(It) quickly spread. We got out of the house with nothing but the clothes on our back and no shoes on our feet. I’ll explain more later but posting this in case I miss any appts, calls, texts, meetings. Thank you GOD.”

New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson (2) and wide receiver Randall Cobb (18) talk towards the end of the game. The Jets lose to the New England Patriots, 15-10, at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023, in East Rutherford.

Cobb, who was first drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2011, spent last season with the New York Jets. He’s currently a free agent. The Tennessee native and his wife have three young sons: Cade, Caspian, and Chance. Randall took to instagram and shared his own message:

“Thank you all for the love and positive messages. First and foremost, we are all safe and healthy. We got out of the house and I was able to go back in and get our dog, Louie. We can’t thank Chief Caruthers, Captain Irvin and the Nashville Fire Department enough for their swift action. I can’t get the image of the brave firefighter getting into position out of my head; he didn’t even have water to shoot yet.”

He went on to explain how frightening it was when firefighters responded and put themselves in harm’s way:

“I truly thought the cars were going to explode and that we would lose him to this tragedy. He is a true hero. Unfortunately we don’t know how much, if anything, will be salvageable, but this has been a reminder that nothing is more important than the health of our family. We are grateful for our incredible community in Nashville, and the support from our close friends that have given us a temporary roof over our heads and shoulders to lean on.”

Cobb’s one season in New York was largely quiet. He snagged five balls and scored one TD. Many expected him to have a bigger role, but that changed when Aaron Rodgers went down with injury. The pair had played 10 seasons together in Green Bay, and Rodgers largely recruited Cobb to join Gang Green.

Randall Cobb played last year for the Jets, joining the team along with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, whom he played with for 10 years on the Packers.
