NFL: Denver Broncos Training Camp
(Denver, CO) – Sean Payton had his work cut out for him this offseason. Entering the draft he had two quarterbacks, one of which had never played for the Broncos in Zach Wilson, and the other, Jarrett Stidham had started just two games for Denver.
With the twelfth pick, Denver selected Bo Nix out of Oregon as the sixth quarterback in the first round. Nix quickly proved his skill in training camp, and his preseason performances through two games left everyone impressed. The 24 year-old rookie has been nothing short of “outstanding” according to Payton.
The young passer has been so impressive that he was officially named the starting quarterback on Wednesday for Week 1. He will be the first rookie starting quarterback for the Broncos since John Elway in 1983.
Nix sealed the job with a near perfect game against the Packers. He completed 8-of-9 passes for 80 yards and a touchdown. Both Wilson and Stidham played well too, but it was an easy decision with just how good Nix has been.
Denver will host the Cardinals for their preseason finale and then head to Seattle in Week 1 for Bo Nix’s true debut.
