With the Yankees trailing 7-4 in extra innings and on the verge of being swept by the Rays and losing 11/13 games, the Bombers desperately needed a jolt.
Josh Donaldson provided the decimated Yankees with their signature 2022 moment.
With the bases loaded and nobody out in the 10th the third basemen deposited a 0-1 fastball over the right field wall to win the game for the Yankees – a game New York needed in the worst way after losing 17 of 26 games post All-Star Break.

“Just a great fight all night,” manager Aaron Boone said. “Obviously [it’s] not easy for us right now, but we’re in the fight and we’ve just got to keep fighting. Great to see that level of at-bats to finish off a game when it looked like it was stripped from us.”
Donaldson, who had been stuck in a 3-for-28 slump said “I definitely think that was probably a release of some joy and some frustration over the past couple week.”
On a day that began with calling up Oswaldo Cabrera and Estevan Florial for a youthful injection, ended with a iconic walk off Grand Slam.
The Yankees will look to ride this momentum into a pivotal three game series with the Blue Jays tonight in the Bronx.
