He’s back! The 3-time Pro-Bowler and former AP first-team All-Pro defenseman Landon Collins returns to Big Blue. He finalized a contract this morning with the Giants as CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson reported. He now returns to the franchise that started his career.
Collins was selected 33rd overall in 2015 out of Alabama. He was a plug-and-play defensive stalwart from the gecko, resulting in his first Pro Bowl call in 2016 where he also was named to the AP’s First Team All-Pro. He had 8 interceptions and 4.0 sacks with the G-Men before he went to Washington and signed with the Commanders. Now, he has become much more than just a threat in the secondary.
He has a much more Jamal Adams-like skill set that has led to Collins even seeing snaps as a linebacker in some cases. With Washington, he has 6.0 sacks overall in his three seasons. They signed him on a 6-year $84 million deal. Collins significantly underperformed in pass coverage, which led to Washington cutting Collins back in March. The former All-Pro been out of a job ever since. He arrives at a Giants team with new personnel across the board.
It’s a great signing for New York as Wink Martindale could use Collins’ abilities to deploy him in whatever part of the field suits him or the team best. Collins will likely start on the practice squad before being elevated to the active roster.
