NFL: Chicago Bears at New England Patriots
Just like that we’re halfway through the fantasy regular season. With bye weeks and injuries continuing to pile up on fantasy owners, here are three players you should be targeting on the waiver wire:
Justin Fields 23% Owned
After his Monday Night Football win over the New England Patriots, that now makes three straight top-12 fantasy finishes in a row for the 23-year old. Despite the Bears ranking almost dead last in every major passing category, Fields is still bringing fantasy value to the table thanks to his elite rushing abilities. In Chicago’s first seven games, the second year quarterback has compiled at least eight rushing attempts in each of them. In the Bears last two contests, Fields has rushed for 170 yards. He currently ranks second amongst QB’s in both yards and attempts. Chicago Bears’ Head Coach Mayy Eberflus finally drew up a competent game plan vs. and it paid dividends. Fields finished with his best fantasy performance of the season. The Bears would be wise to use their electrifying quarterback just like Jalen Hurts, and if they do, he will finish top 12 at the position despite his struggles throwing in the pocket.
Gus Edwards 16% Owned
Just like everybody predicted, Gus Bus rose from the dead to lead the Baltimore’s backfield in touches. Many may forget that before the ACL injury last year, Edwards was slated to have a big role in this offense, and that was surely the case on Sunday. Edwards compiled 66 yards on 16 carries. Counter-partner Kenyan Drake finished with just five yards on 11 touches. The Ravens thrive off the run and if Edwards is indeed the starter moving forward he’s a low-end RB2. He should be a top waiver target priority this week.
Joshua Palmer 26% Owned
Palmer was operating as the #2 pass catcher on the Chargers offense with Keenan Allen out. Now with Mike Williams sidelined for the foreseeable future (ankle), Palmer still projects to see a ton of playing time. He missed Week 7 with a concussion, but through the first six weeks he played 80% of the teams snaps, and has 8+ targets in half of those games. Another injury to Keenan Allen would elevate him into must-start territory. For now he’s a flex play when the Chargers return from their bye to play the Falcons.
