Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich walks off the field after losing to the Washington Commanders 17-16 on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2022, during a game against the Washington Commanders at Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

The Colts have fired Frank Reich. Longtime Center, Jeff Saturday will serve as the interim HC for the remainder of the season.

Just two weeks ago, Colts owner Jim Irsay urged that he had given no thought to firing Reich. The Colts proceeded to lose to the Commanders and Patriots, totaling just 19 points and allowing 43 – and the story changed.

Reich made the decision to bench Matt Ryan in attempt to spark the Colts offense, but it deemed an obvious failure.

Reich was considered a rising star in the coaching ranks after serving as offensive coordinator for the Super Bowl-winning Eagles. He won a playoff game in 2018 with Andrew Luck. The Colts returned to the playoffs in 2020 with Philip Rivers but were bounced in the Wild Card round. Then inexplicably dropped a game to the Jaguars last season, which cost them a return to the postseason.

Reich’s stint with the Colts was up and down but he will likely will find a job next season and could eventually resurface as an offensive coordinator or head coaching candidate down the line.
