Angels GM Perry Minasian said Monday that the team is not trading Shohei Ohtani this winter.

There is a ton of uncertainty in Anaheim, especially with longtime owner Arte Moreno announcing his intention to pursue a sale of the franchise. However, word from Anaheim is that Ohtani will at least begin the 2023 campaign as still a member of the Angels.

The 28-year-old phenom signed a one-year, $30 million contract extension in early October, avoiding arbitration, and is scheduled to become a free agent following the 2023 season.

The two-way superstar boasts an .886 OPS with 121 home runs and 66 stolen bases in 566 major league games. He has also pitched to a 2.96 ERA with 441 strikeouts through his first 349 2/3 innings.

He’s looking at an all-time contract once he hits the market. With the Angeles tied up with Mike Trout, it’s likely Ohtani won’t be wearing red and white come 2024. The smart move? Trade the prodigy while his value is at it’s highest.
