The Blue Jays have hired Don Mattingly as a bench coach.
It’s a fresh new kind of gig for Mattingly, who has spent the last 12 years managing the Dodgers from 2011-2015 and the Marlins from 2016-2022. The 61-year-old will work alongside manager John Schneider in Toronto.
It’s not out of the realm of possibilities Mattingly finds another managerial role in the future. He went 889-950 (.483%) with four postseason appearances across 12 years.
