Willson Contreras has agreed to a five-year $87.5 million dollar contract with the Cardinals, per Jon Morosi of MLB Network.
As expected, Contreras will move on from the Cubs after a seven year sting. The 30-year-old leaves with three All-Star appearances, and a World Series ring in 2016.
His defense has been trending the wrong direction, but the Cardinals have the luxury to rotate him into DH duties if necessary. Regardless it’s a massive offensive upgrade over the retired Yadier Molina.
The 30-year-old veteran slugged 22 homers in 113 games with the Cubs in 2022. It was the third time in his career he’s surpassed the 20 home run mark.
Contreras figures to slide right into the heart of an already impressive Cardinals lineup. He could very easily post career numbers across the board.
