The Twins and free agent Joey Gallo have agreed to a one-year deal, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

The deal is worth $11 million, which seems like a reasonable buy low for a player just two year removed from playing in the All-Star game and hitting 38 home runs.

However, Gallo is fresh off one of the worst big league seasons in recent history. He hit just .160 across 410 plate appearances with the Yankees and Dodgers last season. He had just 56 hits and struck out 163 times. For reference, Aaron Judge hit 63 long balls.

The two-time Gold Glove award winner likely will replace Max Kepler in right field.

It’s a much needed fresh start for the 29-year-old. The Twins are gambling on his upside: if they’re right, they’ll have gained a potential All-Star talent at a minimal cost; if they’re wrong, they’ll be just the latest team to swing and miss (no pun intended) on the 8-year veteran.
