Los Angeles Lakers starting point guard Dennis Schröeder told his story after the LAPD pulled him over this past week.
Police stopped the 29-year-old German after his team’s home win against the San Antonio Spurs this past Wednesday over allegedly driving a stolen vehicle. While the encounter ended without issue, a recent video released by Schröeder online offers his view of what occurred.
At around the two-minute mark of the video, Schröeder (speaking mostly in German), begins to recount his experience. He claims he was “very aggressively” handcuffed. Describing the scene, he said there were around thirty squad cars on the scene armed with “shotguns, pistols, Uzis, and I don’t know how many other weapons.” According to Schröeder, authorities also forced his rider Alex to lie down on the floor at one point.
However, after giving the police some information, the citation for the improper plates turned out to be incorrect; the plates on Schröeder’s car were from a Cadillac he had sold a year ago. With the (in Schröeder’s words) “error” realized, the police allowed him to leave.
The guard seemed to be in good spirits following the incident. The video ends with him recapping what was a big win for the Lakers in new acquisition Rui Hachimura’s debut.
Schröeder finished the game with nine points, eight rebounds, five assists, four steals and two blocks.
