(New York, NY) – Giants standout pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux is just getting his career started, but he’s shown a knack for causing controversy. That dates back to his days at the University of Oregon, when he made comments disparaging the quality of education. More recently, the NFL world lit up with dissenting opinions following Thibodeaux’s sack of Indianapolis QB Nick Foles and an ensuing celebration – despite Foles lying on the ground injured.
This past weekend, Thibodeaux expressed his disappointment with the San Francisco 49ers effort during their 31-7 thrashing at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles. As Philly cruised to the Super Bowl, Thibodeaux fired off a tweet laced with three “crying laughing” emojis that read “Way this game look we might be better than the 49ers.”
Enter stage left, retired 49ers offensive tackle Joe Staley. Not liking what he read about his former squad, he proceeded to tweet back at Thibodeaux “Ur a flash player who gets bodied by average tackles. Don’t let the New York media affect you too much.”
From there, the two engaged in a one-on-one spat, with Thibodeaux responding “Who are you bro…” to Staley’s attack, and Staley following that with “congratulating” the Giants rookie on his four sacks during the season.
Now, after retired Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes defended Thibodeaux on Twitter, an even bigger personality has stepped in: Hall of Famer and Giants legend Michael Strahan. Chastising Staley to “let my young guy live,” Strahan also reminded the former offensive lineman of several instances in which he bested him – despite being an older player at that point.
Staley offered a one sentence rebuttal to Tynes’ response: You’re a kicker. He’s yet to respond to Strahan.”
