NFL: Los Angeles Rams at Arizona Cardinals
The NFL’s most eligible non-QB bachelor might just be the Los Angeles Rams’ Jalen Ramsey.
The cornerback has been the subject of plenty of trade buzz over the last few months. It’s only been amplified by the recent report from NFL Insider Jason La Canfora saying it’s a matter of when, not if, Ramsey’s sent elsewhere. The over $25 million he’s owed and the fact the Rams are more than $12 million above the salary cap are the most pressing financial reasons to end his time in the City of Angels.
The rumor mill says the five-time Pro-Bowler has four potential destinations:
The Las Vegas Raiders: Pass defense was not a strength for this team, yielding 25 passing TDs and only netting six INTs this year. Combine that with the uncomfortably high QBs rating that corners Amik Robertson and Nate Hobbs allowed, and you have a pressing desire to upgrade that department. Letting Carr go would give the Raiders the room to absorb Ramsey’s contract.
The Minnesota Vikings: Despite racking up 13 wins, the Vikings were another team who really struggled defensively. They let up the second-most yards in the NFL this year (4,515), and they were thrashed by Daniel Jones in the Wild Card. Chandon Sullivan and Cameron Detzler both allowed QB ratings north of 110, so replacing one of them is a must if Minnesota would like to remain competitive.
The Detroit Lions: If Ramsey ended up here, he’d be their best corner since Darius Slay (and he would definitely be the better player of the two to suit up for the Lions). Even though his contract would be a tough pill to swallow, the drop-off of Amani Oruwariye’s production may give rise to the idea that closing in on Ramsey and teaming him up with would make their secondary run that much smoother.
The Pittsburgh Steelers: This would require the movement of some cash and draft picks, but the Steelers could benefit greatly from adding Ramsey to the roster. Cam Sutton is hitting free agency, and Ahkello Witherspoon and William Jackson III are coming off injuries; why not pull the trigger and pass on a corner in the draft to get a sure thing in Ramsey?
