CBS Sports’ Jason La Confora reports multiple general managers came away from the Senior Bowl thinking Fields would be traded.
Chicago holds the number one pick in this year’s NFL Draft. Whether they trade or keep the pick is guaranteed to create tons of headlines.
On one end, the Bears have a project quarterback in Fields, who took a massive leap this year, not necessarily as a passer but how he can impact the game with his swiss knife rushing ability.
But looming in this year’s draft is Bryce Young, who is widely regarded as the best quarterback in Alabama history.
While his 6 feet, 194-pound frame creates concern, drafting Young gives Chicago the opportunity to rebuild with a quarterback with a higher ceiling, a ceiling that includes Drew Brees-like accuracy, and Joe Burrow-like poise.
Not to mention, he already has the passing ability that has eluded Fields so far.
If this is the route Chicago chooses to take, that leaves an interesting set of options for Justin Fields. Has the Ohio State standout proven to be a franchise quarterback? Not by any stretch of the imagination.
But he has shown enough to make front offices in Houston, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Atlanta, and Carolina drool.
