Ravens QB Lamar Jackson is most likely getting a franchised tag as the extension talks aren’t getting any closer to completion. However, according to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, Jackson playing under the tag won’t be happening.
The Ravens quarterback had an interesting message for his Instagram followers the day before NFL teams can use the franchise tag.
The 26-year-old posted on his Instagram story, “No matter how much genuine love you show it’ll never be enough, “so f–k it.” It wasn’t the first time Jackson expressed his frustration on social media. Following the team’s season-ending loss, he posted a message that saying, “You don’t take chances losing it.”
Browns QB Deshaun Watson reset the market last offseason with a five-year, 230,000,000 million dollar deal, fully guaranteed. Jackson is seeking a similar contract. Whether or not he deserves a deal like Watson is not of discussion. It is whether the Ravens are willing to part with the former MVP.
24 games in the past two seasons is not ideal, but a combined 45-16 record as a starter tells you all you need to know about Jackson and what he brings to the table.
Nonetheless, a non-exclusive tag would earn Jackson 32.4 million dollars. That also allows any team to agree to terms with him, with Baltimore being awarded two first-round picks as compensation.
However, an exclusive franchise tag is much more likely for the former first-round pick, which comes in as 45.2 million dollars.
