The Chicago Bears are “leaning towards” trading the #1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft, per Adam Schefter. They’ve reportedly been approached by multiple teams about making a move, and it appears likely they will.
The number 1 pick has been traded a dozen times since 1967, with the last time it happened being in 2016 when the Rams made their move to nab Jared Goff.
Bears GM Ryan Poles has been guiding the 3-14 Bears through an attempt to rebuild. The big decision facing the Bears–the type of player they’d want to get from trading the pick–seems to be moving away from a quarterback, given the verbal commitment given by Poles to Justin Fields. If the Bears kept their pick, Bryce Young would be on the board.
“We have flexibility where if there’s opportunities where if we can turn that into a lot of players that come in and help us, we can do that,” Poles said. When it comes to their opportunities with a prize as valuable as the first pick, there should be plenty leading up to draft night.
