Why the Rodgers Trade Could Take a While

(New York, NY) – According to a new report, the Aaron Rodgers trade “could take a while,” but New York Jets fans shouldn’t be holding their breath while waiting for the team to make the trade.

Last week, Rodgers went on the Pat McAfee Show and indicated it’s his intention to play for the Jets next season. Now, ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler says New York’s front office is feeling “confident” that they can remain “patient” and still get a deal done.

Fowler also says the Green Bay Packers are not engaging in trade talks with any other teams at present, meaning it’s likely the Jets or bust in terms of any potential trade. Rodgers is under contract with Green Bay and can refuse any trade.

While the NFL world awaits any movement on the deal, former Philadelphia Eagles team president Joe Banner told the New York Post on Saturday that the Jets have the leverage in negotiations.

“If I’m the Jets, I’m getting him for as little as I can, and I am absolutely not putting a one at risk, no matter what,” he said. “Why put a one on the table when all you’re gaining is getting him a little bit sooner maybe? The Packers have to cave at some point.”

Fans and pundits have argued back and forth as to who has the leverage between the Jets and the Packers, but the reality is that neither team truly has any leverage. It doesn’t do the Packers any favors to hold out on the Jets, nor does it help the Jets if the Packers decide to wait before making a trade.

The Packers are undoubtedly trying to get the best compensation possible while planning to start next season with Jordan Love under center. It’s not yet clear what the Jets will have to give up in terms of picks or players.
