(New York, NY) — Matthew Stafford is back.
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay says there will be no limitations on Stafford this upcoming season, who is coming off a tumultuous 2022 campaign after a brain injury on top of a lingering elbow issue.
“He’s feeling good. I was just with him the other day and he was in the facility and doing some extra work and being able to throw,” Mcvay said at the annual NFL Owners meetings.
“People forget what a big deal that was and that was a little bit different than what we anticipated in terms of the recovery time, goes through some of the concussions and things like that,” he added.
The poor campaign led to a little over 2,000 yards, 10 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in nine games Stafford also tallied career-lows in the lowest adjusted yards per attempt and the second-lowest touchdown rate of his career.
Stafford’s constant injuries were seen as signs of retirement for the 35-year-old. But, those talks are put to rest as 2021 Super Bowl winner denied any consideration regarding hanging up his cleats.
The Rams’ offseason program begins April 17, and if 2022 proved anything, it’s that Stafford is more motivated than ever to secure another Lombardi Trophy.
Perhaps a Comeback Player of the Year trophy has the name of Stafford, who many claimed ‘could barely throw’ just a few days ago.
