(New York, NY) — From one shortstop to another.

New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter gave a shoutout to Anthony Volpe Wednesday morning on Twitter, one day before the MLB regular season.

“Congratulations @Volpe_Anthony,” Jeter wrote. “There’s nothing like playing shortstop for the New York Yankees.”

Volpe officially won the Yankees’ starting shortstop competition over the weekend and will make his highly anticipated big-league debut on Thursday against the Giants in Yankee Stadium. Manager Aaron Boone told reporters Volpe will likely bat ninth.

After he got the news that he made the team, Volpe said he “was probably pretty blacked out.” “If I had a heart-rate monitor on, it would probably be my max ever heart rate,” the Yankees shortstop added.

The 21-year-old enters the season with just 22 games of Triple-A experience and no major league action.

The NJ Native was selected by the Yankees in the first round of the 2019 draft. According to MLB.com, the shortstop is the Bombers top prospect in the organization.
