(New York, NY) — Don’t get caught with long hair working for the New York Yankees. Team broadcaster Michael Kay will call you out.
YES Network cameras showed Yankees manager Aaron Boone in the bottom of the eighth and the camera shot included a long hair bat boy.
“Strange to see a Yankee uniform, somebody wearing that uniform with that sort of hair,” Kay said on the broadcast. “If the players aren’t allowed, I don’t know if the bat boy should be allowed.
The rule being referenced is the “Neatness Count” policy introduced by former Yankees owner George Steinbrenner back in 1976 and remains intact nearly 50 years later.
Soon enough, the batboy, Nate tucked his hair in on Tuesday when the Yankees and Guardians matched back up.
‘There are rules,’ Kay said. ‘Rules are rules. He’s disobeying two of them. I think there’s facial hair and obviously, the hair is below the collar.’
It was later discovered Nate actually works for the Guardians despite being decked out in Yankees gear.
‘They had him tuck the hair under the helmet,’ Kay said Tuesday as the Yankees pulled out an 11-2 win over Cleveland. ‘His name is Nate, he’s in a band, he’s a drummer — Open Doors is the name of the band — and he found all the uproar from social media kinda humorous yesterday.’
No clue whether Kay was joking or not but if you are going to work for a baseball team, please be sure to cut your hair before either team’s announcer calls you out.
