(New York, NY) — Another day, another arrest in the NFL.

Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey was arrested Monday on a misdemeanor assault charge in Harris County, Texas. The incident allegedly stems from an incident with his girlfriend, according to reports.

The argument sparked over a disagreement about a dog and keys to a rental car, per the report. It occurred around 7 p.m. on Monday and bystanders reportedly had to break up the altercation. Winfrey was later released on a $1,000 bond.

“The defendant attempted to force the complainant to leave with him, and when she would not, he tried to force her to. Bystanders intervened, and the defendant stopped trying to force the complainant to leave with him,” court records state.

A fourth-round draft pick by Cleveland in 2022, Winfrey was disciplined at least twice by the team last season for his behavior. He played in 13 games, recording 22 tackles.

Despite his up and down rookie season, the 22-year-old flashed potential and could become a key contributor in Cleveland’s defensive line rotation in 2023.
