(New York, NY) — The breakout star of the 49ers might not be “Brock” solid.
San Francisco QB Brock Purdy underwent surgery to repair his elbow just about a month ago, and it’s an open question if he’ll even suit up next season. Purdy was asked if he would be able to play during a recent interview with Yahoo Sports, and he said that he was “not really sure, honestly.”
Speaking to CBS sports, Purdy said he is “Just taking it one day at a time. Just trying to heal up and feel a little bit better every single day, and it’s all gone as planned. Obviously we’re in great communication with the doctors that I’m working with, the Niners, the organization as a whole, everyone’s on the same page and we’re excited for how it’s going. So just taking it one day at a time.”
So far there have been no reports that his UCL recovery in his throwing arm has been going poorly. Missing the whole season is a worst-case scenario, according to GM John Lynch in an interview for San Jose Mercury News.
“We’ll see how everything goes. We’re going to do what’s right for Brock, because that’s right for our organization. You know, be aggressive with what we do but also be really smart. We’re insulated with other guys we have a lot of belief in, so if Brock’s not ready, we’ll hold down the fort until he is.”
But if Purdy isn’t ready from the jump, Trey Lance and Sam Darnold may duke it out for the starting job.
