(New York, NY) — Who’s calling? And are they calling for King Henry?
Tennessee Titans GM Ran Carthon said recently that he has not received any calls about trading star RB Derrick Henry.
“It is what it is,” Carthon said Monday. “I know people have a job to do to speculate and put things out and hope that it sticks, hope that they’re right.”
This contradicts multiple reports that have come to the surface that say some teams have been inquiring about his services. The Titans reportedly shopped their backfield star during the combine. Carthon called reports of the team looking to trade Henry “erroneous”
Henry is entering the final year of an extension signed prior to the 2020 season. He is due to earn a $10.5 million base salary and will count a massive $16.37 million against the cap. Such a hit is what would probably push him out of town.
The 29-year-old has spent his entire seven-year career with the Titans, after being selected in the second round of the 2016 draft. Since then, he has led the league in carries three times, and is just one of eight players in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a single season (Henry had 2,027 in 2020).
