(New York, NY) — Death, Taxes and the Braves losing another player to injury

Braves placed RHP Kyle Wright on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation. The 27-year-old was forced to exit his start against the Marlins on Wednesday and is now looking at another extended absence.

Wright opened the season on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation, but said this issue is slightly different. The Braves should know a lot more about his status in the days to come. The news is troublesome considering that injury-riddled starter received a cortisone shot in in January which delayed his start to Spring Training.

“It sucks,” Wright said after the game, fighting back tears.

The right hander said he started feeling discomfort in the second inning.

“I didn’t feel good enough to keep going,” Wright said. “At that point, I wasn’t being smart. I give Kranny (pitching coach Rick Kranitz) a lot of credit for protecting me from myself.”

Manager Brian Snitker said he suspected something was off when they noticed a dip in Wright’s velocity.

Wright, the only 20-game winner in the majors last season is off to a disappointing 2023 campaign. Dylan Dodd has been called up and will start Thursday against the Marlins.
