(New York, NY) — There’s nothing in sports like a feel good story.

The New Orleans Saints have reportedly offered TE Foster Moreau, formerly of the Raiders, a contract.

Moreau was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma after the disease was found during a routine physical with the Saints in March. Moreau, a native of New Orleans, was close to signing with the Saints before he was diagnosed

It is unclear if the contract extended to the former Raiders tight end has more to do with a signal of health or an extension of healthcare as he is only two months into his battle with cancer.  The tight end has said he hopes to receive medical clearance to return to football by October, but he would need a few weeks or maybe another month to get into game shape.

“Through somewhat of a miraculous process, this free agency period has been life changing for me,” Moreau wrote back in March. “I’ve come to learn that I have Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and will be stepping away from football … at this time to fight a new opponent: Cancer. I’m grateful for the support and thankful for people who have stood firm with me.”

Moreau did not detail the process that led to the diagnosis, but that “miraculous” line indicates the cancer might not have been caught if not for physicals with prospective NFL suitors.

Hodgkin lymphoma affects the lymphatic system, part of the body’s germ-fighting immune system, according to the Mayo Clinic. According to the American Cancer Society, the five-year “relative survival rate for all patients diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma is now about 89%.”

Moreau’s health is what’s most important, and until he’s satisfied with his treatment plan and recovery timetable, he’s probably keeping his focus away from football.
