(New York, NY) — Any fan should expect a front office to be high on their first-round pick. But a seventh-rounder? That is uncharted territory.

The New York Jets’ brass have one word to describe seventh-round pick, Zack Kuntz: freak. The tight end out of Old Dominion was an NFL Scouting Combine standout which earned him the 220th overall selection.

“Always take the freak that loves ball,” head coach Robert Salah said. “And if you do, usually they pan out.”

Kuntz is 6-foot-8, 255 pounds with a 4.55 40-yard dash. He ranked first in his position group in the vertical jump (40 inches), broad jump (10 feet, 8 inches), and three-cone drill (6.87 seconds).

“He tested through the roof,” general manager Joe Douglas said. “..the size, the speed, the length, the jump, just everything, and another guy who may have been drafted a little sooner if not for the injury this year.”

Kuntz looks to return to form this year after just five games in 2022 due to a dislocated kneecap.

“I think my performance at the combine definitely helped in terms of just raw athleticism and what I’m able to do physically,” Kuntz said. “At the end of the day, I’m a Jet and I’m very happy for it.”
