(New York, NY) – According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Yankees left hander Carols Rodón hopes to start throwing from flat ground today, in his bid to return from injury.

If that goes well, the Yankees are “hoping” the left-hander (chronic back tightness) begins a throwing program on Saturday. That would potentially put the 30-year-old starter on track to make his New York debut in late June.

Rodon hasn’t thrown since last Thursday, the day that a decision was made that he’d get a cortisone injection at the recommendation of three back experts.

“I wouldn’t say (it’s starting from) scratch, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “For the most part, he’s kept his arm going. He’s been throwing these last couple months through it all to varying degrees, whether it’s long toss, catch play, on the mound, facing (hitters) in lives.”

Signed away from the San Francisco Giants this past offseason, Rodón is expected to be a big piece of the Yanks’ rotation. He faced a mild forearm strain during spring training, and now has been dealing with a nagging back condition.

This is the first year of a $162 million, six-year deal.
