MLB: San Francisco Giants at Miami Marlins
(New York, NY) — Heroes get remembered, but legends never die.
The Brewers signed 1B/OF Darin Ruf to a one-year contract on Monday. It’s his third team as in many months.
Ruf was designated for assignment by the Giants last week but elected to explore the open market rather than accepting an assignment to Triple-A Sacramento.
With Luke Voit (neck) heading to the injured list, Ruf could find himself platooning at first base for the Brewers.
The 36-year-old batted .261 with no homers and three RBI in 23 at-bats at the big league level this season.
Ruf’s second stint in San Francisco began when the Mets released him in early April. While he quickly latched onto the big league roster, Ruf only appeared in nine games before being placed on the 10-day injured list due to right wrist inflammation.
The Giants activated him from the injured list on the same day of his DFA. Cold world.
The Mets are still responsible for the bulk of the $3.5MM he is owed for the 2023 season.
