NFL: New York Jets-Aaron Rodgers Press Conference
(New York, NY) — It may be a short OTA session for QB Aaron Rodgers who suffered his first hiccup as a member of the Jets on Tuesday.
According to multiple reports, Rodgers appeared to have “tweaked something” during team drills. There is no immediate concern that it’ll be a long-term issue. However, it becomes another storyline to pay attention to in New York this offseason.
“I just tweaked my calf in a little pre-practice conditioning, so I decided to take a vet day,” Rodgers said, noting he suffered the issue running. “I don’t think it’s too serious,” he added.
The injury appeared to happen while he was jogging with a small medicine ball.
Rodgers has dealt with numerous injuries throughout his career. While still a backup to Brett Favre, he suffered a broken foot. The future Hall of Famer has also shattered his collarbone twice, which costed him an equivalent of a full NFL season.
Despite not participating in drills, Rodgers remained engaged as the Jets installed offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett’s new offense.
“It’s been awesome. It’s been a lot of fun,” Rodgers said. “I haven’t been to OTAs in the last couple years, so it’s nice to kind of be out here, be out in meetings, speak up about certain things — adjustments in the offense and additional coaching points. ”
The four-time MVP is already making his presence felt in the Jets’ facility. ESPN’s Dianna Russini says players and coaches describe having Rodgers as someone who has a lot to say and someone who is all in.
Russini added that the standard has been raised for the Jets, with everyone being held accountable in meetings and on the field. Rodgers is also said to have a lot of say in decisions with trust building throughout the entire roster.
“It’s been like a dream month so far,” the Jets quarterback said with a smile. “Every day I wake up excited about coming to the facility,.”
