NFL: San Francisco 49ers at Las Vegas Raiders
(New York, NY) — The Las Vegas Raiders underwent mandatory minicamp on Tuesday without a familiar face; running back Josh Jacobs.
Jacobs still has not signed the franchise tag and will not participate in OTAs. The star running back said this offseason that he was willing to sign the tag if the Raiders added talent to the offense.
The Raiders offseason hasn’t gone exactly to plan, leaving Jacobs to hold out in hopes of a long-term contract.
Head Coach Josh McDaniels addressed the situation saying “JJ is the only one that’s not under contract…The deadline is not until July, so, again, I respect everything about that process. This is not the first time that that’s happened in terms of me being a part of that.”
The reigning NFL rushing champion is coming off a monster season posting over 2,000 scrimmage yards and 12 touchdowns.
McDaniels remains optimistic about negotiations saying “Love the kid, love the player, love the person, and look forward to when I see him.” July 15th is the deadline for both sides to reach an agreement on a long-term contract. After that, contract negotiations will have to be put on halt until after the season.
It’s just another headline for what’s turned into a disastrous offseason for Vegas.
