(New York, NY) — New York Giants linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux is drawing big praise from a Big Blue legend.

Michael Strahan has been a mentor for Thibodeaux ever since he was drafted in 2022. Strahan took a glimpse at what Thibodeaux accomplished in his rookie season and it was nothing but praise.

“He came in as a better player than me,” Strahan said to 77WABC Monday at the Big Daddy Celebrity Golf Classic at Oheka Castle on Long Island.

“He came in with a better understanding of the game of football than I did. Obviously, because he had a lot more sacks in his rookie year than I had in mine.’’

Strahan only had one sack as a rookie in 1993 and did not break out until 1996 when he had 14 sacks to begin a stretch of six seasons of double-digit sacks in nine years.

Michael Strahan, far left, gives the thumbs up as the New York Giants retire his jersey with former coach Tom Coughlin, far right, and former player Jessie Armstead, center. The Giants defeat the Eagles, 13-7, at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2021, in East Rutherford.

A slow start meant nothing for Strahan who ended up breaking the single-season sack record in 2001 with 22.5.

He totaled 141.5 sacks in his career which ranks sixth all-time in NFL history.
