MLB: Game Two-Chicago White Sox at New York Yankees
(New York, NY) — The highly anticipated rosters were revealed on Sunday for the 93rd Major League Baseball All-Star Game. And like every year, once the team is named, it’s time for complaints.
Nobody is disputing whether or not Aaron Judge or Gerrit Cole should have been chosen. Well, maybe some delusional fans, but we’ll ignore them for now.
However, if it were up to manager Aaron Boone, the Yankees would have one more representative in Seattle on July 11.
And it’s not who you’d expect.
“I really feel like Gleyber has been really consistent offensively. I actually feel like he’s outperformed his numbers,” Boone explained when asked which player on his team was snubbed from the game.
“I feel like his at-bats all year long have been really consistent. Hopefully he continues that and the ball bounces his way a little bit more moving forward because I feel like offensively, he’s been really strong for us.”
Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien was selected to start in the American League, who leads the league in practically every category at the position. Blue Jays Whit Merrifield was selected as the backup second baseman.
While Torres numbers don’t pop off the page, he’s swatted 12 home runs, while driving in 34 runs. He ranks 10th amongst American League shortstops in WAR – with Merrifield ranking 8th.
The truth? Neither player deserves consideration.
The most logical choice is Angels’ Brandon Drury who’s slashing an impressive .277/.322/.500 with 14 HR and 45 RBI.
But hey, that’s the All-Star Game in a nutshell for you.
