(Los Angeles, LA) — Here we go again.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said during an appearance on MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM on Friday that the club hopes to get Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) back at the beginning of August.

“So I think for us, it’s kind of trying to figure out where we get Clayton back. Which is the hope at the beginning of August,” Roberts said.

The future Hall of Famer was placed on the injured list on July 3rd, with left shoulder soreness, after leaving his start at Coors field on June 27 after just 79 pitches.

The Dodgers initially expressed optimism that Kershaw would only miss one start.  If Kershaw doesn’t return until the beginning of August, it will be about five weeks that he misses due to his shoulder injury.

For what it’s worth, Kershaw said Friday that his left shoulder doesn’t hurt when he throws, but Dr. Neal ElAttrache recommends more rest, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. It seems like he is ready to return, but he’s trusting the doctors and playing things extremely safe.

He will throw a bullpen session next week in Baltimore. Michael Grove will continue to start in the place of the southpaw.

Kershaw has compiled an impressive 10-4 record, 2.55 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and a 105/24 K/BB ratio over 95 1/3 innings through his first 16 starts.
