(New York) — Here we go again.
Francisco Alvarez was removed from Tuesday’s game against the Yankees after being hit in the hand by a pitch in the ninth inning.
To add insult to injury, Alvarez swung at the pitch and it was the third strike on him. He immediately left the game with the training staff, appearing to be in significant pain.
The play came subsequently after Yankees reliever Albert Abreu also drilled Mark Vientos in the hand with a pitch.
Buck Showalter said there is concern.
“You know players and their body language.
Alvarez will head for imaging to see if there are any fractures. Expect the Mets to provide an update on his status prior to Wednesday’s game.
The catcher has been one of the lone bright spots for the Mets the season slashing and impressive .238/.298/.511 with 19 home runs and 41 RBI across 74 games.
