(Tampa, Florida) — A former All-Star may be heading to Tampa.

The Rays and White Sox are deep into talks on a Lance Lynn trade, according to USATODAY’s Bob Nightengale.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal recently reported that the Rays are on Lynn’s 10-team no-trade list. Apparently, talks have advanced and Lynn is willing to waive for the chance to pitch for playoff team.

The 36-year-old has a 6.18 ERA in 20 starts for the White Sox this year, though he’s had some excellent starts of late. The right-hander has one more season on his contract – but it’s a club option – for $18M.

Lynn is still missing bats at a high level (27.3% strikeout rate, 14% swinging-strike rate), but he’s been victimized by the long ball this season – carrying a career high home run rate.

Entering the season, the Rays didn’t look like a team that needed to acquire starting pitching but after injuries to Jeffrey Springs, Drew Rasmussen and Josh Fleming – the team is seeking depth in the back end of the rotation.

Should the Rays add his services, they would be acquiring a starter with 27 games of postseason experience under his belt. Just two years ago he was an All-Star after putting together a career-low 2.69 ERA.

Lynn is slated to pitch against the Cubs at home on Wednesday.
