(Los Angeles) — The Rams superstar receiver suffered a hamstring injury and was helped off the practice field Tuesday.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Kupp will be out for “a few weeks.” The team will be cautious with their top player, per Schefter, meaning we likely won’t see Kupp at all this preseason.
“A few weeks” isn’t the most concrete timetable but would suggest Kupp is 50/50 to suit up week 1 against the Seahawks.
“He looked like he came up a little bit in a red zone route,” Rams head coach Sean McVay said. “I just know they told me he was out for practice.”
“Obviously, we’re much better when he’s here, and we hope he’s going to be OK. If he’s not, we’ll see what happens, but the practice had to go on.”
Kupp won the NFL’s triple crown of receiving in 2021 and was on pace for another monster season last year before the ankle injury caused him to miss the team’s final eight games. The 30-year-old had 75 receptions in nine games, putting him on pace for 141 catches, which would have been the fourth-most for a single season in NFL history.
“I just want to know what’s going on,” quarterback Matt Stafford said. “That’s the main thing, and I’ll figure that out at some point. But I trust our guys, and whatever is going on, I know he’ll do everything he can to work through whatever is going on and be back out here whenever it’s the right time.”
The Rams will now cross their fingers and hope that Kupp’s hamstring injury isn’t serious.
