NFL: Preseason-New York Jets at Carolina Panthers
(Florham Park, NJ) – A fight broke out at the New York Jets facility today, as tensions bubbled over during joint practices with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
According to head coach Robert Saleh, senior defensive assistant and cornerbacks coach Tony Oden was hit by “friendly fire” and had to be carted off the field. He was hospitalized although he remained alert and didn’t seem to lose consciousness.
Third-year cornerback Brandin Echols was at the center of the fight in question, per the New York Post. Bucs WR Mike Evans, who is about to play his 10th season in the NFL, said he’d never seen so many fights at a joint practice.
Saleh told reporters, “I didn’t see what happened… But T.O. has a big place in my heart, so I’m thinking about him right now.”
He didn’t seem overly concerned: “He’s doing fine. I’m not exactly sure what happened. I know it was during one of the altercations. … He’s awake, he’s doing fine, he’s stable.”
