(East Rutherford, NJ) – The New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers held a joint practice session yesterday at the Jets’ team facility in Florham Park, New Jersey.

And as we covered at the time – things got a little chippy. It seems concerns that would bubble over into the following day led to the cancellation of a second day of planned joint practice.

Per Buccaneers reporter Rick Stroud, the Buccaneers found themselves scrambling after that cancellation – leading to the New York Giants offering up one of their practice fields in nearby East Rutherford, New Jersey.\

Stroud shared video of the Bucs warming up on X (formerly Twitter), explaining the team was warming up at a “training complex across from MetLife Stadium for practice. The NY Jets bailed on a second day of joint practices, something that apparently was agreed to in March. So the Giants graciously offered their practice field.”

Florham Park, NJ May 31, 2023 — Jets head coach Robert Saleh addresses the media before the start of the Jets OTA.

Jets insider Rich Cimini posted on Wednesday morning that provided some further insight on the situation.

He noted the practice sessions mark the return of former Jets head coach Todd Bowles, currently the Bucs head coach. Cimini noted early Wednesday, “A practice was scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday), too, but the #Jets canceled. (Saleh) cited player safety as the reason, claiming 2nd joint practices tend to get chippy and have more injuries.”

The Jets and Bucs play on Saturday in preseason action at 7:30.
