New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll talks to reporters before mandatory minicamp at the Giants training center in East Rutherford on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.

(East Rutherford, NJ) – Things seem to be improving for the New York Giants from a health perspective.

Head coach Brian Daboll says running back Saquon Barkley is being upgraded to day-to-day status, after spraining his ankle during the week 2 win against the Arizona Cardinals – and being forced to miss last Thursday’s game.

There’s been conflicting reports as to whether or not Barkley suffered a “high” ankle sprain or “normal” ankle sprain – with the latter being associated with a faster recovery period. Daboll said in an overarching way about his team that, “everybody’s been rehabbing, getting better.”

Guard Ben Bredeson (who also missed week 3) has not yet been cleared from concussion protocol, but appears to be on track to return Monday night against the Seattle Seahawks at home. Today will reportedly count as Brederson’s non-contact practice, meaning he could be cleared by Thursday. That will help solidify the Giants offensive line, which was down two starters last week.

As for left tackle Andrew Thomas, the hope is he’s getting close to a return as well. He suffered a hamstring injury during the week 1 loss to Dallas and missed the past two games. Daboll has not committed to Thomas being ready for MNF as of yet.

In filling in for Thomas during his absence, T/G Josh Ezeudu seems to have impressed the coaching staff. Daboll says he’s now considered the Giants’ primary backup at every offensive line position outside of center. It also looks like second-year guard Marcus McKethan has earned a starting job, having taken over the right guard position during the past two weeks.
